We are a long established friendly club with members  from all   around the Cirencester, Malmesbury and Swindon area.

As a club we cater for all levels of rider, from those who just want to have fun with their horse, new combinations starting their training, through to people competing their horses at any level.

We are affiliated to British Riding Clubs, within Area 9, which enables members to compete in qualifiers of all equestrian disciplines and the chance to qualify for national championships at all levels. We hold regular clinics, residential camps and training days with a variety of instructors to suit all abilities and welcome new members to come and join the fun!

March Training Weekend

Very kindly organised and hosted by Jude Matthews at Taddy Woody on 9th / 10th March.

Both Bruno Freire - International Show Jumper and Trainer and Aaron Guy - International Dressage Rider and Trainer were very well received by members and every-one enjoyed really good lessons despite the weather with lots of positive feedback requesting we do it again - so watch this space for further dates.

Area 9 Combined Training Qualifier

This event was held at Hartpury on 5th January 2019. We sent three teams and a great day was had by all.

Our VWH Lions team - Penny hall, Megan Goff, Jude Matthews and Biffy McNally did brilliantly to win as a team to qualify for the National championships at Aston Le Walls in May.

Jude and Benji won individually, whilst Penny Hall was 2nd Individually, Penny King and Helena Miller were both 5th individually, whilst Megan Goff, Becky Scammell and Annitta Engel were all 6th so a great day was had by all and a super start to the year.

Area 9 Winter Novice and Intermediate Show Jumping

Held at West Wilts on 13th January. We sent an 80cm, 90cm and 1m team and once again team spirit was the name of the game. Our 80cm team sadly suffered a lorry break down, a course navigational error and a tumble in the first round, but all team members produced beautiful second rounds to make up for it.
Our 90cm team - Helena Miller, Janine Collishaw, Ness Bennett and Sharon Robbins did brilliantly to finish 4th with individual 2nd for Janine
The 1m team - Sharon Robbins, Lynda King and Mechelle Lake were sadly out of the ribbons but all went home smiling.
Thank you to Lynda for team managing.

Area 9 Winter Novice Dressage

This was held at Summerhouse Equestrian Centre on Sunday 11th November, run once again by ourselves. Well done to all those who competed - Janine, Fi and Annitta. Annitta finished 4th Individual in her section and thank you Jo Thornton for team managing.

A huge thank you goes to every-one who very kindly volunteered to help on the day. We had good entries once again with limited daylight, hence it was a busy and early start but the day was a great success and made a good profit for club funds.

Area 9 Arena Eventing

This was a new competition for 2018 held at West Wilts Equestrian Centre on Sunday 17th November. The club entered four teams and had a super day.
Our 80cm team - Judith Wilson, Helena Miller, Penny King and Fiona Symes finished 5th
Our 90cm team - Sharon Robbins, Vanessa Bennett, Suzie Cleveland and Beth Hams finished 3rd with an Individual Win for Sharon
Our 1m team sadly missed a team score due to an unfortunate tumble but Lynda King finished 3rd Individual
Well done to all those who competed and thank you to Becky Scammell for team managing.

Late Summer Training Day

With trainer Cassie Price to be held at Oxstalls Cross Country Course, Frampton Mansell.

Leg Anatomy Evening

On Wednesday 25th April, The George Vet Groups Equine Vets Angela Jones and Ben Wilson provided a fascinating evening for members involving leg anatomy and dissection. They were both thanked enormously for giving up their time to come and demonstrate for us.

We were set up with specimens provided and instructed how to inject fluid into joint cavities and spaces, so that on skinning the limbs you could really appreciate how close to the surface these important structures were. Members were then instructed on how to dissect the Tendons, identify ligaments and bony structures. Comparisons were then be made between limbs and injuries identified.

In true riding club spirit not to be deterred members then enjoyed a pizza feast and social gathering.

What this space for future talks and demonstrations - if you missed this one but would like me to book another date - I can do so if I get enough interest :-)

Jonty Evans Training

Training with International Eventer Jonty Evans was secured for Sunday 11th March at Rectory Farm. Jonty has been eventing internationally for over 20yrs, he finished 9th Individual at the 2016 Rio Olympics on Cooley Rorkes Drift, and was part of the Nations Cup winning team and 8th Individual representing Ireland in Boekelo. He also has a selection of young horses he's bringing up through the levels. When not competing Jonty also does a lot of teaching from Novice horse and rider up to 4*.

In response to his campaign last Autumn to fund raise and keep Cooley Rorkes Drift, the VWH Committee took the decision to make a donation from Club funds and in return secured some training and a fabulous time was had by all.

In addition to the training, Jonty then gave a fabulous talk at the RC AGM on 4th April in Cirencester that was very much enjoyed. Giving a real in site to all the preparation, training and travel involved with getting them to Rio 2016 and life since with the campaign to keep Art and what hopefully lies ahead in the future.
