A great day for the VWH Riding Club at the Area 9 Combined Challenge qualifier today , despite a couple of unfortunate withdrawals reducing the 70 cm and 90 teams to three members ( just like the Olympics!).
Everyone rode flowing SJ rounds which were a pleasure to watch and in this comparatively new competition, trotted straight out to start their xc - no time for nervy xc warmups here!
In the 70cm, two combinations, Meg Williams and Smoky Seamus + Penny King and Rio, were making their debut for the Club, supported by Sarah McMurray on Super Love. Meg pulled off an amazing WIN, Sarah was 2nd and the team qualified for the Championship!
The 80cm team finished a close 2nd with the mother and daughter team of Philli and Penny Hall with Miss Daisy T and Killone Dunn taking a fabulous 2nd and 3rd place, backed up by Jude Farr on Loch Arthur and Caroline Seward on Cormac. More Champs qualification will likely come in this class. Individual Cassie Rabbets on Magic gave a fluent performance with just a satnav error in the arena scuppering their end result.
In the 90cm we had more success with Emma Roberts, returning after an enforced break, competently bagging 2nd place with Butterfly and Alex McConnell riding Showtime Belle into 6th. Sharon Robbins made up the team with a brilliant clear showjumping round on Libby but sadly retired on the xc.
Well done everyone! The championship is at Aston le Walls in October. Supporters welcome!
